Jan Amos KOMENSKÝ - life, work, legacy

Truchlivý IV

Truchlivého díl čtvrtý a ostatní, to jest Smutný hlas zaplášeného hněvem božím pastýře k rozplášenému hynoucímu stádu. Ostatní již rady dáním se všechněmi se žehnající

Sorrowing, the fourth part and the remainder, that is, the Sad voice frightened by the anger of God’s shepherd at scattered, dying flock. Otherwise with advice given to all with blessing.

Origin of the work:
  1660

Editions:
1660 Amsterdam

1916 Tábor

1978 Prague, J. A. Comenii Opera omnia, vol. 3.

Contents:

The last of the collection of four works is a monologue, and is rather a pastoral letter of farewell to the nation and church. Humility and conciliation predominate. The identity of this tract remained uncertain for a long period, and its connection to the Sorrowing as a whole was confirmed only in 1963 when Rudolf Říčan discovered a print which as a makeweight included the 1660 edition of the Sad Voice with its full title.
