Jan Amos KOMENSKÝ - life, work, legacy

Sprottau

also Šprotava

Federal Republic of Germany. A town on the river of the same name.

Comenius came to this small Silesian township in 1625, in order to meet Kryštof Kotter, tanner and author of the anti-Habsburg Revelations, which interested Comenius beyond measure. He read Kotter’s text, translated it in short order, and passed it to Frederick of the Palatinate (1626); he had the text printed with the revelations of Kristina Poniatowská and Mikuláš Drabík.
