Jan Amos KOMENSKÝ - life, work, legacy

Örebro

Sweden. Town on the river Svarta, close to the western end of Lake Hjelmar.

An old town with a strongly fortified royal castle. It was here that Sweden was declared a hereditary monarchy in 1540. The town is an important mercantile centre.

In September 1642, Comenius came to Örebro to meet Doctor Jan Goth Matthiae, counsellor to Queen Christina, and to inform him of the scope of his work. At the end of the meeting Dr. Matthiae offered Comenius the chance to meet the queen herself.
