Modlitba plačtivá

Modlitba plačtivá o zem udeřené, rozražené, pošlapané i rozptýlené církve české podobojí, věrných následovníků věrného svědka pravdy M. Jana Husa

The tearful prayer for the lands of the struck, battered, trampled and dispersed Czech Utraquist church, faithful followers of that faithful witness of truth Master Jan Hus

Origin of the work:
  1655 Leszno

Editions:
1663 Amsterdam (attached with the Rytmus k doufání to the second edition of the Historie o těžkých protivenstvích církve české)

1983 Prague, J. A. Comenii Opera omnia, vol. 4

Contents:

A prayer originating in Leszno under the anxious conditions of the First Northern War.

It is a lament for the bleak situation of the Unitas Fratrum, created in a stylised Biblical form as a paraphrase of the Lament of Jeremiah. Given the difficult situation of the Bohemian Brethren as a church the author turns to God, who has inflicted punishment upon him for the transgressions of his forefathers, and expresses his faith in Him and the hope that He will lead the cowed people back to their restored lands.
