Originally a township with a castle, its owner first named in 1249. In the 16th century one of the Anabaptist centres in South Moravia. In 1626, on his journey through South Moravia, Comenius met Julián Poniatowský of Duchník, a priest of the Brethren, at Drnholec, who unsuccessfully tried to demonstrate the veracity of Kotter’s prophecy. This was also the last place he stayed in South Moravia, perhaps dealing with private property affairs.
